PenFriends is a pen pal kit that connects Australian children living in cities to children who are geographically isolated or living remote communities. Children who live in isolated areas do not have the same social or schooling access that children living in major cities do. PenFriends aims to create a means of safe communication and friendship between these two groups. Children living in Major cities will also gain real world perspective of how others live.
In recent years letter writing has become a dying art due to the invention of electronic communication. PenFriends is bringing back letters in a big way and here’s why. Handwritten letters are personal. They show the receiver that someone has spent time and effort in communicating with them. They contain secrets, thoughts and information that are precious and personal. They are a way of connecting two people that cannot be achieved through the impersonal use of texts or instant messages. Children of this era deserve the opportunity to know what this feels like.
